People use SocialCalendar to get their social life together - birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, get-togethers, other social occasions and associated gift-giving. People also share dates, plan events and coordinate going to movies and restaurants with their friends and family.
Since its launch in February 2008, SocialCalendar has become a Top-20 application on Facebook according to Facebook Application Directory (Most Active Users). SocialCalendar is also a part of The Adonomics 100™. How SocialCalendar Got Started
SocialCalendar founder Raj Lalwani and co-founder David Jordan relied on their wives to keep them in the loop with the family's social plans. For example, using a calendar that hung on the kitchen wall, David's wife kept track of important dates like their son's open house or dinner with the in-laws. David checked it whenever he remembered to. Unfortunately, David didn't look at the calendar often enough and frequently ended up saying, "That's today?"
Hence, the idea for SocialCalendar was born. Now their SocialCalendars are full of occasions created by their wives, and they get regular reminders in advance of the event. Raj is the father of an eleven-year-old daughter and one-year-old son. Instead of buying something that his kids won't use or enjoy, Raj's mother always asks what she should buy them. Since his daughter, like most tweens, knows exactly what she wants and has a lot of time on her hands, Raj asks her to prepare wish lists. She gets what she really likes and her grandmother is happy that the gift is actually being enjoyed - a win-win situation. The element of surprise is still present as she doesn't know which of her wish list items she will receive. Research shows that Raj's mother is not alone - when purchasing for others, consumers often do not know what to buy. Telling friends and family about wish lists carries guilt, even though wish lists are well-received by givers. Of course, gift giving is of no use if you forget that special occasion. So, this feature was a natural extension of the SocialCalendar service. Management Team
Raj Lalwani Lalwani brings over 20 years of software experience to the SocialCalendar team. Most recently, he was the founder and CEO of Billeo, the venture-backed consumer bill-pay startup company. Billeo raised over $11 million from industry insiders and institutional investors, and is deployed by Visa, JP Morgan Chase and other large financial institutions. Prior to Billeo, Lalwani co-founded Assigncorp, the online consulting/staffing/offshore development firm, which serviced customers like Blockbuster.com, Kaiser Permanente, Countrywide and Sony PlayStation. Lalwani began his career as a software development engineer for Hewlett-Packard. Lalwani holds an M.Tech in computer science from the IIT, Delhi, India, where he was also the class valedictorian and Gold Medal winner. He also holds an MS in computer science from Penn State University, and a certificate in databases from Stanford University.
David Jordan Jordan brings over 10 years of software experience to the SocialCalendar team, including five years of experience designing user interfaces that specialize in web-based applications. Prior to co-founding SocialCalendar, he was the Principal User Interface Designer at InQuira, a company that focuses on improving customer interactions on the Web and in the call center. InQuira customers include Bank of America and Honda. Prior to InQuira, David worked as a User Interface Design Consultant with Billeo, as a User Interface Design Lead with Icarian and as a software development engineer with Icarian, Assigncorp, Intiva and InfoGain. Jordan holds a MS in computer science, with an emphasis in human-computer interaction design, from Stanford University, and a BS in computer science from UC Santa Barbara.
